Are New Yorkers more vulnerable to cyberattacks?

Information comes in every day and from every part of the world, about cyberattacks carried out on large companies with millions of customers worldwide. And it is very likely that you yourself or a friend or relative of yours has been the victim of a data breach. It is certainly not a pleasant experience. It can affect your daily life and put you in processes to discover exactly what has happened and what you can do. It is a difficult situation that it would be better to avoid.

Data shows that data breaches have declined in 2020, but major companies like Marriott and Nintendo have suffered cyberattacks this year. Security incidents at such large companies often affect millions of users around the world.

Wallethub decided to conduct a study to determine which states are most vulnerable to identity theft. For its research, it compared the 50 states on 14 different metrics, from identity theft complaints per capita to the average amount lost to fraud .

Cyberattacks

New York ranked as the seventh most vulnerable state for identity theft. The state most vulnerable to identity theft is Florida, followed by South Carolina and Delaware. Below you can see how New York ranks on different measures of identity theft:
