Windows 10 update KB4046355 removes Windows Media Player from your operating system. The update was released to Insiders with Windows 10 build 1709, but it doesn't affect all devices running the beta version of the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
Note: There is currently no page that details this update.
It is currently unclear whether the removal of Media Player is accidental and whether this will later affect devices running stable versions of Windows 10.
The change may not be that big of an issue for Windows users who run other third-party media apps like VLC Media Player, but it will definitely worry many who are used to using Microsoft's app.
It should be noted that update KB4046355 removes Windows Media Player from the computer, but does not prevent a new installation.
If you accidentally removed Media Player from your computer, you can use the “Manage optional features” page of your operating system to reinstall Windows Media Player and restore its functionality.
Open the Settings app with the keyboard shortcut Windows-I.
From Programs and Features, click on “Manage optional features.”
Windows displays all installed optional features. Select the “Add a feature” option from the top of the page.
Scroll down and at the bottom of the box you will see “Windows Media Player” listed as an additional feature that you can install on your device.
Click on it and then on the install button.
The installation will not take more than ten to twenty seconds.
Windows Media Player will be available on your computer again.
