DDoS attacks based on IoT botnets are the new tactic. In reality, of course, the use of connected smart devices such as smartphones , tablets , etc. allow us to communicate and stay informed, but the increase in these attacks is not so unexpected.
Let's now see what IoT (Internet of Things) means in practice. It is the communication network of a multitude of devices, home appliances, cars and any object that integrates electronics, software, sensors and network to allow the connection and exchange of data. It is predicted that by 2025, there will be 31 billion devices connected to the internet.

Botnets are now constantly evolving and according to IoT analyst Ian Hughes, they are considered a real security risk precisely because of this evolution. Before the cloud era, the risk would have been infection of the PC due to the installation of patches by the user. Now, as the number of connected devices increases, so do the options for malicious code on them.
This means that not only has the technology actually created new problems, but the ability to exchange opinions, personal information, etc. between users and groups has made all the imperfections and weaknesses of the systems visible. Ian Hughes also mentioned that these connected devices have relatively low computing power and are capable of running any form of software and being remotely managed.
The solution given by botnet experts is for all IoT devices and networks to acquire high levels of security monitoring, perform regular updates , and have known levels of trust.
