AMD Ryzen 3000 processor with 16 cores may be announced soon

Even before CES 2019 in January of this year, rumors of a new generation AMD Ryzen 16-core CPU were circulating . However, no announcement or mention was made at the conference. But now, just a few weeks before Computex 2019, the rumors have started to flare up again. A Thai Twitter user, TUM_APISAK, has posted on his account the specifications of what he believes to be a sample of a Ryzen 16-core processor, which he discovered in a database of a benchmark whose name remains unknown.

According to TUM_APISAK, the as-yet-unnamed processor features 16 cores, a base clock speed of 3.3GHz and a boost speed of 4.2GHz. The chip was tested on a motherboard based on the upcoming X570 platform controller. No other specifications are known, but it can be assumed that this chip supports multithreading for a total of 32 threads.

There have been rumors for some time that AMD will add a new Ryzen 9 model to its product line to match Intel's Core i9 brand for its high-end desktop CPUs.

It is likely that AMD will announce its next-generation Ryzen 3000 series processors at Computex 2019. The Ryzen 3000 series will be built around the Zen 2 architecture, a revamped version of the current Zen+ and Zen designs that helped AMD return to a strong position in the market, after many years of falling behind Intel.

Additionally, we are certain to see AMD X570 motherboards at Computex 2019.

Intel's own struggles to build 10nm processors and maintain supplies of the new 14nm models should help AMD in the short term. While Intel has committed to finally releasing 10nm processors this year, AMD will launch 7nm desktop Ryzen CPUs as well as 7nm Epyc processors based on the "Rome" architecture for servers and 7nm "Navi" GPUs for data centers and graphics cards, all in 2019.

It's likely that AMD will increase the core count across the Ryzen 3000 series, with the six-core, 12-thread pattern becoming the standard for the entire Ryzen 3 series, and with 12- and 16-core options making up the Ryzen 7 or supposed Ryzen 9 series.
