Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has important information about the iPhone 17 series.
Despite previous estimates, Apple will not use chipset 2nmInstead, this is expected for the iPhone 18, and even then, confirmation depends on the accuracy of Kuo's information.
Apple has reportedly retained a supply of 2nm chips from TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), which suggests that the iPhone 17 will continue to use the existing chips, offering increased power and efficiency in the same form factor. If that is not the case, then the rumored iPhone 17 Air will remain with a 3nm chip.

Meanwhile, Samsung plans to start producing even smaller chips – 1.4 nm – by 2027. However, this may not become a reality, as the company has begun recalling staff from its Texas factory due to reduced efficiency.
Samsung is also planning massive layoffs, reaching 30% of its global workforce. This raises doubts about the viability of 1.4nm chips and the return of Exynos to Ultra phones, which may not be as certain as we hoped.
If Kuo is correct about not all iPhone 18 models having the 2nm chip due to cost concerns, then that could lead to price increases. It's reasonable to expect the iPhone 18 Pro models to be more expensive when they launch. Whether the performance upgrades are worth the extra price tag remains to be seen.
Although the iPhone 17 is expected to be a more significant upgrade compared to the iPhone 16, it still features a 3nm chip. Apple Intelligence is not yet complete, and its absence in the EU and China makes the iPhone 16 launch very difficult.

Combining visionOS 2, which is launching with a lack of features, and the iPadOS 18 that complete the M4, this year looks to be a tough one for Apple.
