The company announced Apple Intelligence during its September event to unveil the new iPhone 16.
Initially, Apple Intelligence will require the device to be set to US English. There is also a geographical restriction, as some legal complications have arisen in China and the European Union. Users outside of these regions will be able to download iOS 18.1, set their iPhone to US English, and the beta version of Apple Intelligence will be available for testing.
Apple Intelligence will support more languages
Initially, Apple will support local variations of English this December. In December 2024, support will include UK English, as well as that used in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa.
This support will likely come with the software which is also rumored to include Apple Intelligence features.
In 2025, Apple Intelligence will support additional languages. Those announced are: Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Vietnamese.

As for legal issues in the European Union and China, Apple says it is in ongoing discussions with regulators. In the EU, new laws prevent Apple from launching Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad at this time . However, it is available in the macOS Sequoia 15.1 developer beta (macOS is not considered a gatekeeper platform).
