The Weather Channel has been attacked by ransomware

The global weather channel, Weather Channel, was attacked by ransomware , resulting in the live broadcast being interrupted for approximately 90 minutes.

The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by The Weather Group, LLC, and the channel broadcasts forecasts and meteorological news and analysis, along with documentaries and entertainment programs related to weather conditions.

During the incident, viewers were unable to view useful weather information from www.weather.com.

The weather channel confirmed that its network was attacked via a tweet, adding that “backup mechanisms” allowed the channel to restore service. “We apologize for any inconvenience to viewers as we work to resolve the issue.”

The company did not disclose further information, other than that the hackers tried to extort money from it by locking down the systems.

The incident is already in the hands of the FBI.

The Weather Channel said: "We are experiencing technical difficulties with our live broadcast. We apologize for any inconvenience while we resolve this issue.".
