Authorities investigate FBI website hacking case

In a previous article, we reported on a breach incident in which a group of hackers breached FBI- related sites and published 1,400 files containing personal data of police and federal agents online.websites

Authorities have begun investigating the case and conclude that the data theft was likely from websites associated with graduates of the FBI National Academy.

The files included information on employees of the FBI, Secret Service, Capitol Police, US Park Police and other agencies as well as information on police officers in North Carolina and Florida.

The FBI National Academy Associates said the leaked information came from sites of the nonprofit organization, which has nearly 17,000 members nationwide and in 174 countries, and said it was cooperating with federal authorities in investigating the case.

According to the group, its national database was not affected. The three sites that were affected used third-party software.

"If it is determined that criminal activity occurred, we will prosecute the perpetrators as required by law," said the group, based in Quantico, Virginia.

The identity of the hacker group that breached the sites and published the data has not yet been revealed, however, there is some information that they are based in Ukraine.
