Apple faces lawsuit over FaceTime bug

FaceTime

In recent days, a huge bug in Facetime on iOS 12.1 devices has become known , which allowed third parties to eavesdrop on conversations, even before the recipient answers the call.

Now, a report suggests that some users were seriously affected by the bug. Bloomberg reports that a Texas-based lawyer has sued Apple, claiming that the iPhone bug allowed an unknown person to listen to his private conversation with one of his clients.

According to plaintiff Larry Williams II, the bug on his iPhone resulted in an unknown person listening to “his most private conversations without his consent.” Furthermore, the privacy breach occurred when one of his clients was giving him a deposition in a case.

According to the complaint, Williams alleges a number of serious claims, including breach of warranty, product unreliability, negligence, and misrepresentation.

The Facetime bug occurs when a user starts a FaceTime conference call and adds their number and the number of the person they want to chat with. So far, Apple has disabled Facetime for group calls and will release a permanent fix for the issue later this week.

While it is the first such lawsuit that Apple has received, it is very likely that sensitive information of many people, from different walks of life, has been compromised.
