SUSE announced support for Intelwith SAP HANA.
Persistent Memory (or PMEM) is typically defined as any method or device that stores data structures so that they can be accessed, using memory instructions or memory APIs, even after the process that last created or modified them has ended – and this often means “when it is out of operation.”
Using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP applications, SAP HANA users can now use Intel Optane DC persistent memory in the data center.
Users can optimize their workloads by moving and maintaining larger amounts of data closer to the processor and minimizing the higher latency of retrieving data from system storage during maintenance.
Support for Intel Optane DC persistent memory, currently available in beta from multiple cloud service providers and hardware vendors, is another way it helps customers transform their IT infrastructures to reduce costs, achieve higher performance, and become more competitive.
“Persistent memory technology will fuel new applications for data access and storage,” said Thomas Di Giacomo, CTO at SUSE. “By offering a fully supported solution based on Intel Optane DC persistent memory, enterprises can take full advantage of the performance of SAP HANA. SUSE continues to partner with companies like SAP and Intel to serve customers worldwide as they seek to fuel their growth by transforming their IT infrastructure. Their needs drive our innovation.”
Intel's VP & GM for non-volatile memory and storage, Alper Ilkbahar, says that Intel Optane DC persistent memory represents a new class of memory and storage technology designed specifically for datacenter use.
This new memory class is designed to provide cost-effective solutions for large-capacity in-memory databases, help deliver longer system uptime and faster recovery after power cycles, and deliver higher-performance cloud-scale applications.
Martin Heisig, SAP HANA Technology Innovation Network, said: “The ability to deliver persistent memory for SAP HANA is an important milestone in our ongoing relationship with SUSE and Intel. SAP Digital Core is built on the idea of simplifying infrastructure for increased productivity and real-time insights.”
Support for Intel Optane DC persistent memory with SAP HANA workloads running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP applications is included in SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Service Pack 4, which is now available worldwide.
