There's no doubt that Facebook is trying hard to attract as many teenage smartphone users as possible. Its recent efforts, such as Lasso or Watch, have either met with little response or have proven ineffective. Nevertheless, it seems that Mark Zuckerberg hasn't given up on the effort just yet.
According to a report from TechCrunch, Facebook is secretly working on a new product, which will be based on videos and will be aimed primarily at teenagers and young adults in general. The new product will be called LOL and its content will consist of funny videos and GIFs. It is currently being tested on 100 secondary school students, with the consent of their parents.
The report states that its content will be divided into different categories. Some of them will be: Animals, Fails, For You, Pranks. It is possible that this new meme hub will get its content from various popular meme pages that exist on Facebook.
Currently, LOL is being tested as an attempt to replace Facebook Watch, within the app itself. However, it is not yet clear whether the final product will be a new standalone app or will have a place within the existing Facebook app.
LOL, for many, is seen as yet another desperate attempt by Facebook to lure teenagers, who appear to be regular users of Snapchat, TikTok or Instagram.
Will Zuckerberg's new endeavor be successful?
