Using the AirPods' "Live Listen" feature for anything other than its actual purpose is something Apple probably doesn't want to happen.
After the fear that smart speakers, such as Amazon, could be used to listen in on conversations, it’s time to worry about Apple. Apple has introduced a new feature called “Live Listen” for AirPods with iOS 12 for iPhone and iPad, which aims to help people with hearing impairments. The “Live Listen” feature of AirPods can be used to listen in on conversations. “However, people can use “Live Listen” to spy on their boss or co-worker by hiding their iPhone in the same room as their victim. Anyone using this tool can simply turn up the volume of their iPhone’s microphone to listen through the AirPods.”
Using the feature for anything other than its intended purpose could be worrisome for the company, as Apple takes user privacy very seriously.
The “Live Listen” feature was introduced in an iPhone software update in September for Apple’s AirPods. Previously, it was available on a few models of Apple-certified headphones. Hopefully, the company will take note of the issue and push out an update to fix the issue or reduce its range so that the audio pickup range doesn’t extend beyond the room.
