0patch releases fix for Windows 10 Task Scheduler vulnerability

The Windows 10 Task Scheduler vulnerability revealed on Twitter earlier this week won't get a patch from Microsoft until the next Patch Tuesday on September 11th, but in the meantime the developers at 0patch have you covered.

A third-party fix for the bug is now available for Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) 64-bit, and anyone can download it. 0patch customers running the 0patch Agent with a single click on the sync button can automatically get the micropatch.

Since this is a third-party security update, many are wondering if there could be any conflict when Microsoft releases its own patch next month.

But according to 0patch, this will not happen, and users will be able to install updates as they do every month without any problems.

“Many people are asking what will happen when Microsoft releases the official update to fix this vulnerability while they have the 0patch Agent installed with the micropatch installed. Simply put, the micropatch will stop running because the DLL with the specific crypto hash will no longer be there,” the company explains.

While many are hesitant to install third-party security updates, this is the only way to resolve the recently discovered Windows 10 “0-day” bug at this point.
