In this digital age, almost everyone has a smartphone and a computer. In this case, we often feel the need for a smooth integration between these two devices. Apple is famous for how well its devices work with each other, while Microsoft has made similar efforts.
And now, in a very positive development for Linux enthusiasts, Canonical has expressed interest in releasing Ubuntu 18.10 with OOTB Android Integration, thanks to the GS Connect app– a GNOME Shell version of KDE Connect without KDE/Qt.
Just like with KDE Connect, you can use GS Connect to receive Android on your Ubuntu computer, share data, get device information, browse the file manager, etc.
Canonical also asked community developers to contribute to the process.
The development projects of this integration are expected to be carried out by adding the Ubuntu Dock and Dash-to-Dock to the Ubuntu desktop.
In the meantime, before this feature is added to Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish, you can use the GS Connect app on Bionic Beaver to control your Android phone from the Ubuntu desktop.
