How to download all your Facebook data to find out what it knows about you?

dataLately, many people are increasingly thinking about deleting their Facebook forever. First, there was the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and then there was the company's habit of collecting Android users' data for years. For many people, these reasons may be enough to close their Facebook forever. But is it that easy? Especially when you have enough reasons to stay on the blue network!

If you want to be like WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton or Tesla boss Elon Musk and join the #deletefacebook movement, you can. But before you take the big step, you should consider the data Facebook has stored over the years you've been on the platform and take a look at what the company knows about you.

How to download data from Facebook in simple steps:

Downloading your Facebook account data is a fairly easy task.

Here are the steps to download Facebook data:

  1. Log in to your Facebook account.
  2. Go to the Facebook Settings page.
  3. In the General section, click “Get a copy of your Facebook data.”.
  4. On the next page, click the “Download File” button.
  5. Enter your Facebook password when prompted.
  6. The file download will start automatically or the download link will be sent to your email.
  7. After the file download is complete, extract the zip file.
  8. Now, run the HTML file called index. It will open in your web browser, where you can see all the data you have downloaded from Facebook.

This way you can get a copy of your Facebook data. The downloaded zip file contains all the data up to the time you started the download process. So if you come back after a few days and download your Facebook data again, it will contain more information.

What's in the Facebook data dump file?

The Facebook data file contains all your profile information, messages, videos, photos, timeline posts, friends list, interest lists, etc. It also includes the list of your past Facebook browsing, connected apps, and advertising topics relevant to you.

Many Android users have claimed to have found call logs and SMS messages in their Facebook data files. It is believed that the company has been collecting the information for years through an opt-in feature in the Messenger app. Facebook users on iOS devices remain unaffected.

Important: The Facebook data file contains highly sensitive information. It would not be wise to keep it in an exported form for a long time. Make sure that after downloading the Facebook data, the error file does not fall into the wrong hands.
