Over time, Windows 7 has no hope against Windows 10

Windows 10's progress continues to improve every month, and data provided by Microsoft shows that the operating system has now reached 48%.

The data is about the Windows userbase, and Microsoft shows that while Windows 10 is rising, Windows 7 is falling, which may be a good thing considering it is scheduled to reach end of support in January 2020.

Compared to January, Windows 10 improved by 1%, approaching powering nearly half of Windows PCs worldwide. An analysis of trends shows that Windows 10 has been improving steadily over the past 12 months, and if the same pace continues, this version of the operating system will reach 50% in about two months.Windows 10

Windows 7, on the other hand, is slowly – as we’ve reported in the past – losing ground, and that certainly makes sense given Microsoft’s continued push for Windows 10. Windows 7 was running on 45% of Windows systems in February 2017, but it gradually declined each month, reaching 38% in February 2018.

Windows 10 adoption, however, is likely to continue to improve in the coming months, especially as Microsoft continues to work on new updates and features. Microsoft will debut Windows 10 Redstone 4 in April, likely as the Spring Creators Update.

This new approach to Windows, which Microsoft itself calls Windows as a service, means that while new versions of Windows 10 are released, older ones are abandoned, so users must always upgrade to the latest versions when they are released.

On the other hand, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft handles the demise of Windows 7, as the operating system is still surprisingly popular. After January 2020, no new security patches will be shipped for Windows 7, which means that systems will be vulnerable to vulnerability exploits.
