KDE Slimbook II: There's now a new Ultrabook laptop powered by Plasma-based KDE Slimbook Linux , and it comes with some impressive hardware specs and at a more affordable price
The reason is the KDE Slimbook II, the second generation of the KDE Slimbook laptop that emphasizes the widely used KDE Plasma open-source desktop for GNU/Linux distributions. The first-generation KDE Slimbook laptop was announced a year ago, was built to run the KDE Neon Linux distro, and offered some attractive features, such as a 13.3-inch display, a faster SSD, and the latest Plasma desktop.
A year later, the KDE Slimbook II is here to redefine the concept of the modern Linux laptop and promises to be 15% faster than its predecessor, featuring either a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor with 3MB cache and Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz or a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB cache and Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz. It also supports 4, 8 or 16 GB of RAM or DDR4 which is up to 33% faster than DDR3.
The KDE Slimbook II features the same crisp 13.3-inch Full-HD display as the first-generation Slimbook, stronger Wi-Fi antennas, a larger touchscreen with multi-touch support and support for various gestures, 3xUSB 3.0 ports, a retro USB-C port, a backlit keyboard, as well as a dual-drive bay that allows users to insert a second drive to expand the laptop's internal storage, supporting M.2 SSDs of 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB.
Many are those who argue that the new KDE Slimbook II is sleeker, more powerful than the first generation Slimbook and was built as a modern Linux Ultrabook and created to be used by both experienced users and beginners.
The best part is that the KDE Slimbook II is cheaper than its predecessor, with prices starting at €699.00 for the Slimbook Katana II with an Intel i5 processor and €799.00 for the Slimbook Katana II with an Intel i7 processor. It is available in two colors, silver and black.
