Microsoft Office: Although Microsoft has committed to making its applications and services available across all platforms and devices, including the Office productivity suite, when it comes to Chromebooks, few users have actually been able to download it.
Google announced in 2016 that Android app support would be released for ChromeOS, meaning that all Chromebooks, regardless of manufacturer, would have access to the Google Play Store's vast collection of apps.
As part of this strategy, Microsoft itself optimized its applications for Chromebooks, including the Office suite, but until recently, few devices could get it.
Finally, the company has released its Office productivity suite for all Chromebooks on the Google Play Store. Now, all devices can enjoy it regardless of the device manufacturer.
What's important to know, however, is that devices with screens larger than 10.1 inches must be set up with an Office 365 subscription in order to edit documents. This is a requirement that Microsoft has implemented across all platforms, making the Office suite simply a suite of document viewers when that subscription isn't available.
In terms of information, Microsoft's applications have been particularly successful in the Google Play Store, with Word reaching over 500 million downloads.
Microsoft Office is one of the applications that receives monthly updates across all supported platforms, thanks to an Insider program similar to that of Windows 10. This way, users can try out new features before their official release.
