Apple's AirDrop feature is coming to Windows 10

The upcoming Windows 10 Redstone 4 brings a new feature, similar to Apple's AirDrop which allows sharing content between iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macs. AirDrop

Codenamed "Near Share," Microsoft's new Windows 10 feature is currently available as part of Windows 10 build 17035 and is expected to officially launch with the debut of the Redstone 4 update in the spring.

Essentially, “Near Share” allows Windows 10 users to send and receive files using Bluetooth, and you can use it through the built-in sharing feature in the operating system and apps (Photos, Microsoft Edge, and File Explorer). Microsoft made sure to enable the new feature directly through the Action Center.

Once you've located the content you want to share with someone using a Windows 10 PC with Bluetooth and have enabled Nearby Share, all that's left to do is click or tap the Share button in the Windows 10 app, then select the PC you want to share the content with. A notification will appear on the other system to accept or decline the file transfer.

The way Near Share works is similar to Apple's AirDrop. AirDrop, for those who don't know, is a fairly popular file transfer tool for Apple users and will clearly come in handy for Windows 10 users, especially given the growing adoption of the new operating system.

It should be noted that Near Share is still in its early days, so several improvements are expected before the official release, which is scheduled for spring 2018.
