Microsoft has finally confirmed that Windows Phone is now dead and that it intends to focus on the apps and services available on Android and iOS.
Joe Belfiore, responsible for Windows and Microsoft Edge, explained that although they are abandoning Windows Phones they want to stay alongside users who choose iPhones and Androids.
Therefore, if you decide to move from Windows to Android and iOS you don't need to worry because Microsoft will continue to update the apps on the competing platforms as well.
When asked if it was time to abandon Windows 10 Mobile, Joe Belfiore explained that everything depends on who you are. «Many companies continue to provide support for their employees and we will not abandon them.» he emphasized.
He himself admitted that he has already changed platform and now uses Android. In the past he was found to be using both iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S7 but ultimately preferred Samsung's flagship with Microsoft apps. «I changed platform to have a variety of applications, luxury that we will provide to our users.» said.
Without Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft wants to remain a major mobile carrier with a large range of applications that run on iPhone and Android, providing customers with an easy way to connect to its services, regardless of the platform.
Regarding the future of Windows 10 Mobile, the feature2 update is still pending, although Microsoft has not yet disclosed the release date. No new features will be included in this updated version, only bug fixes and performance improvements.
