WhatsApp is now getting its own set of emoticons, which means that all emojis will appear on every device regardless of the operating system it uses.![]()
The beta version of the app comes with a new emoji pack that appears to be quite similar to those available on Apple's iOS devices with minimal differences.
Although the WhatsApp emoticon design team tried to differentiate them from Apple's series, the similarities are obvious.
The package is currently in beta, but if testing proceeds without any major bugs, we will likely have it available very soon.
Of course, iPhone users will already be familiar with the new WhatsApp version, given the similarity between the emoticons.
At this point, we don't know the date when the new WhatsApp version will likely be released, but we should definitely expect it by the end of the year.
It should be noted that emoticons are now a major concern for companies, with Apple introducing a new feature called Animoji that will be available exclusively on the iPhone X. Animoji is a set of animated emojis that are produced using the Face ID hardware face scanning and capture facial expressions in 3D.
However, compared to WhatsApp which will be available on multiple platforms, Apple's Animoji will only be offered on iMessage, thus limiting availability to iOS devices only.
