A small scratch on the new iPad Pro released by Apple earlier this year is just as difficult to repair as on the previous Microsoft Surface Pro model, with iFixit giving both devices a repairability score of 2 out of 10.
Although iFixit has not yet published results of the new Surface Pro, there certainly won't be much difference as the two models are similar to each other and feature hardware upgrades that don't change the lid layout in a meaningful way.
It should be noted that the case of the new iPad Pro looks more like the 12.9-inch version than the 9.7-inch one, thus putting to rest rumors that Apple's latest iPad is actually a scaled-down version of its smaller sibling.
However, there are some differences, most notably the new display, which now has a 120Hz refresh rate. iFixit claims that Apple doubled the number of display connection cables from the two found on the original model.
Additionally, Apple has actually installed 4GB of RAM on the device (2x2GB LPDDR4), while the battery has been upgraded from 27.91Wh on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro to 30.8Wh. Storage comes in the form of flash memory provided by Toshiba.
The new iPad Pro also uses the same camera as the iPhone 7, while the secondary camera is 7 megapixels with 1080p video recording.
iFixit stated that Apple made the Smart Connector impossible to replace, but because there are no moving parts that can be serviced, the chances of damage are minimal.
