LG has been offering its official Bootloader unlock tool for developers for quite some time now, and the company has even started adding flagship smartphones to the list, including the G5, V10, and V20. Now it looks like LG has added the G6 to the list as well.
LG has added the European version of the G6 (H870) to the Bootloader Unlock Tool, meaning that developers and users who want to do more with their G6 phones can do so using LG's official tools. Unlocking the Bootloader allows users to run custom ROMs on the device.
Those looking to unlock the bootloader will need to install the Android SDK and ADB on a computer, verify the IMEI, and generate an unlock key to complete the process. LG also shared all the steps users need to take in order to unlock the bootloader. LG said that unlocking the bootloader will be supported on select devices, which is why only a few variants are included in the tool.
The bootloader can be officially unlocked on the LG G4 for the European market, the LG G5 for the US and European markets, and the V20 for the US, among others. Users should note that the bootloader unlocking process may void the phone's warranty.
That said, unlocking your phone will disable some features, including DRM protection that some apps need to function. The process can also make your device vulnerable and cannot be undone.
LG launched the G6 earlier this year and it comes with a 5.7-inch FullVision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 3,300 mAh battery inside with Quick Charge 3.0. It also has 4GB of RAM and runs on Qualcomm. The phone is offered with 32 or 64GB of internal storage, two 13MP sensors on the rear and a 5MP front-facing shooter. It comes with a metal and glass body, along with water and dust protection.
