Microsoft has just released the Android version of its Planner app, after the company previously released it for iPhones earlier this month.
Just like on Apple devices, the Planner app features teamwork features with a very clean and simple interface, offering options to create new plans, organize and assign tasks, share files, or chat with colleagues directly from your smartphone.
What's important to know is that the Planner app requires a work subscription and personal Office 365 accounts are not supported.
“Built for Office 365, Planner lets you work together on the same tasks, attach photos you’ve taken directly to them, and even have conversations around your tasks without switching between apps. With Planner, all your team discussions and deliverables stay with the plan and aren’t locked into different apps,” Microsoft explains.
Currently in version 1.0, Microsoft Planner requires Android 4.2 or later and is apparently completely free, although users should take into account the Office 365 requirement mentioned above.
As for the Windows 10 version of the Planner app, there's still no ETA available, but Microsoft says it's definitely coming. Unfortunately, Windows is once again lagging behind, with Android and iOS clearly showing Microsoft's attention at this point, largely due to the growing number of Office 365 users using those platforms.
Microsoft explained at its recent Developer Build conference earlier this month that investing in Android and iOS is something the company needs to do because it wants its customers to have access to its services regardless of the mobile platform they are committed to.
