Sony: Wireless charging from mobile to mobile!

It seems that mobile phone manufacturers never run out of ideas when it comes to introducing new innovative features to their products in an effort to make them easier for consumers to use. Sony . has just introduced wireless phone-to-phone charging technologySony

The rather clever idea essentially allows one smartphone to charge a second one with its battery via NFC.

Sony's method suggests adding a second wireless antenna for Near Field Communications (NFC) that would this time transfer electricity rather than data. The smartphone could be charged via another smartphone, a refrigerator, a washing machine, or generally any other NFC-enabled device.

But there is a limitation.

The phone can be charged from a device plugged into a wall outlet, but Sony says there will also be the option to wirelessly charge from a second device as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The patent application was granted in November of last year but was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office this month. It remains to be seen whether Sony will actually start working on the implementation of this technology and whether it intends to incorporate it into its future flagships. Let's not forget that many manufacturers occasionally submit patents with quite interesting proposals that in the end do not come to fruition.

The most popular standard for wireless charging is QI which is supported by a large percentage of manufacturing companies such as Samsung, Google and Nokia.
