Guide: Find Who's Connected to Your Wi-Fi

Do you suspect that someone is accessing your network? If you want to know which devices are connected to your Wi-Fi, you've come to the right place. There are several ways to check your network, and this guide was written to introduce you to them.

First way via the router

1 – Open your browser. Using your browser, you can enter your router's graphical interface and check for any unwanted visitors on your network.

2 – Enter the IP address of your router. IP addresses vary by router manufacturer and model. Check your router or manufacturer’s website to find the correct IP address.

  • The most common IP address is 192.168.1.1 
  • To find your router's IP address, open the command line by clicking the Windows menu in the bottom left and typing cmd. In the window that appears, type ipconfig /all and press enter. The IP address you are interested in here is the one that will appear to the right of “Default Gateway”.

3 – Enter your username and password. If you have not changed username and password, enter the default login details. Check your router’s user manual or the manufacturer’s website if you do not know the login details.

4 – Select the list of connected devices. The location of this list within the router’s GUI varies depending on the manufacturer. It may be under “Connected devices” or “Attached devices.” This option will display the MAC address for each connected device on network .

  • If you notice devices that don't belong to you, change your Wi-Fi password immediately and make sure you're using WPA2-PSK encryption. This way, all connected devices will have to re-enter the password to connect.

Second way using Command Prompt

1 – Open the command line. Click on the Windows menu and type cmd.

2 – Type the command arp - a in the window that appears.

3 – Check the IP addresses. Addresses that start with the same digits as your router’s IP address are connected devices to the Wi-Fi network.

Third way using Wireless Network Watcher

1 – Go to the following address: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_network_watcher.html

2 – Scroll and click on “Download Wireless Network Watcher with full install”.

3 – After downloading the program, follow the installation instructions.

4 – Open Wireless Network Watcher. You can find it by typing Wireless Network Watcher in the Windows menu.

5 – Click on the “Play” icon. It is located in the upper left corner of the program’s UI. After clicking it, Wireless Network Watcher will detect the connected devices on your network.
