Google announced that it will donate money to employees and those affected by the anti-immigration executive order signed by Donald Trump a few days ago.
The USA Today reports that the $2 million deposited by the giant, combined with almost another $2 from employee donations, will be able to provide satisfactory assistance. Moreover, the company's execs are going to donate additional money for this purpose, making this campaign the biggest ever created by GΟogle.
The money will go to four organizations: the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the International Rescue Committee and the UNHCR.
Although Google has not officially announced this act of solidarity, it was recently confirmed by a company representative.
Informatively, the ACLU announced that it received last weekend more money than’ what it usually receives in an entire year. This means that donations totaling $24.100.000 were made solely online.
In addition to Google, Lyft also announced that it will donate one million euros over the next four years to the ACLU.
This stance by Google does not impress us much as it is known that the company opposes such practices. Conversely, it wants a more relaxed legislation regarding immigrant visas so that it can more easily employ foreign workers.
The giant appears quite concerned about the new executive order that imposes a 90-day block on the entry of Muslims (from 7 different countries) and refugees from Syria into the United States, while the maximum number of refugees allowed to enter the country this year is 50,000.
