Many OEMs are working on Android Nougat updates for their flagship phones, although some of them, like HTC, have encountered some issues and were forced to stop the process. Sony seems to be taking the lead, as the company has started rolling out the software update to its relatively old Xperia Z5 phones.
Sony has now become one of the fastest companies to release Nougat software updates, well ahead of other smartphone manufacturers. Back in November, the company started rolling out the 7.0 Nougat update to the Xperia X Performance. In contrast, Samsung ended beta at the end of December.
The Xperia XZ quickly followed suit and received the Nougat update, while the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact were treated to a minor update to the same Android OS version just last month. Apparently, Sony has continued to work on optimizing the new UI and new features within Nougat to bring them to even more Xperia smartphones. The Xperia X Concept started receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat earlier this month.
Sony has just started rolling out the 7.0 Nougat update to its Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium phones, with build number 32.3.A.0.372, according to XperiaBlog. The update will soon arrive on the Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+, and Xperia Z4 tablet as well.
As expected, the new software update will bring support for exciting Nougat features like multi-windows that allow users to run two apps at the same time and switch between them with a double tap. Sony will also provide longer battery life for phones that receive the update, as well as a self-timer button for the front cameras, making it easier to snap selfies.
