Hyperloop One announced on Tuesday a formal agreement with Dubai and the United Arab Emirates to begin a feasibility study to build one of the first Hyperloop transportation systems.
The two-and-a-half-minute video released by the company as part of the announcement reveals exactly how the Dubai transportation system will work and the areas it will connect. Hyperloop One claims that the system could cut travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 90 minutes to 12.
One of the most interesting features of the video is the pods. Passengers will board pods that will each then converge into a single Hyperloop One tube. The box-like Pods fit four people at a time inside cylindrical conveyors that then enter the Hyperloop One tubes. If you think about it, there are enough enclosures to freak out the claustrophobic! However, the speed at which the Hyperloop travels will thrill them.
Initially, early rumors surrounding Hyperloop said it was targeting transportation in the United States. However, now Dubai and the United Arab Emirates are the company's new targets.
Upon the news release, Shervin Pishevar, executive chairman of Hyperloop One, said, “Dubai is the perfect place for Hyperloop One as it is a 21st century global transportation hub and its leaders understand that it is ushering in a new era in transportation.”
Hyperloop One hasn't stopped building in Nevada. It promises a full-scale test there by 2017.
