Although delayed by six days, the final Beta version of the upcoming Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak operating system is available today for all interested parties.
Today's final Beta is actually the first beta of the Ubuntu 16.10 pre-release, so you'll be able to check out what's coming in the next major release of Ubuntu Linux. We can tell you that the upcoming Ubuntu will run on Linux kernel 4.8, contain updated applications, and still use Unity 7 as its UI.
“The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the final beta release of Ubuntu 16.10 Desktop, Server, and Cloud products. Codenamed “Yakkety Yak,” 16.10 will continue Ubuntu’s proud tradition of delivering the latest and greatest Open Source technologies in a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution,” the announcement reads.
Today also marks the release of Beta 2 for the various opt-in flavors Ubuntu MATE 16.10, Ubuntu Kylin 16.10, Lubuntu 16.10, Xubuntu 16.10, Kubuntu 16.10, and Ubuntu Studio 16.10.
The Mythbuntu and Edubuntu distributions have not been released yet.
The final Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak will be released next month, on October 13, 2016.
