A developer has created a command-line utility that can make you feel like a hacker in a Hollywood movie. His tool reproduces the decryption text that appeared in the 1992 hacker series “Sneakers.” The code is available for free on his GitHub page.
We often see hackers in movies doing incredible things when they are in front of a computer. We really can't believe our eyes when they break passwords and decrypt entire files from the command line. Unfortunately, this is a product of fantasy! However, a GitHub user added a little more magic to this fantasy.
bartobri (Brian Barto) created a command line utility called nms , or No More Secrets. It's a tool that can reproduce the text decryption scene from the 1992 movie Sneakers. After installing No More Secrets, you can simply type sneakers at the command line to re-watch those scenes from the movie.
You can use nms for regular directories. For example, you can see a complete list of the contents of a directory and then view the result through the nms tool as follows:
ls -l / | nms
How to install No More Secrets
You will need to run the following commands one by one to install nms on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses5-dev lib32ncursesw5-dev
git clone https://github.com/bartobri/no-more-secrets.git
cd ./no-more-secrets
make
sudo make install
To install nms on other Linux variants and Mac OS X, you can head over to Brian's GutHub repo to find the installation instructions and source code.
