Dropbox announces end of support for Windows XP

After Google, which officially dropped Windows XP with the latest version of the Chrome browser, Dropbox is doing the same and announces that, starting from June 26, its desktop application will no longer run on the 15-year-old operating system.

The program that supports Windows XP will be removed from Dropbox , so no Windows XP user will be able to connect to their account, either the old one they had or open a new one.

“On August 29, 2016, the Dropbox desktop app will no longer support Windows XP. After this date, you will automatically be signed out of your Dropbox account if you are on a computer running Windows XP. You will be able to sign in again once you update your operating system to Windows Vista or later,” Dropbox explains.

The company says that the only option Windows XP users have is to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, such as Vista, 7, 8, or 10. Their files will not be affected and will remain secured in the cloud.

An alternative option for those who are stuck with Windows XP and don't want to change them is to access their accounts via drοpbox.com through a web browser or from a mobile device.

So far, the data shows that today Windows XP still runs on about 10% of all computers worldwide. This share is continuously decreasing as more companies drop its support.
