New hits from Anonymous: The week that passed us from Monday, December 14, a massive 40 Gbps DDoS attack hit the DNS servers of Turkey managed by NIC.tr.
NIC.tr is Turkey's service that manages the country's primary DNS servers and the .tr domains.
In a video posted on YouTube, Anonymous took responsibility for the attack, stating that it was part of the online war against ISIS, and the #OpISIS campaign.
According to the group's statement, “Turkey supports ISIS, buying oil from them, and nursing their fighters.”
Anonymous also reported that their actions against ISIS in Turkey are not stopping, but they will continue to attack the country's DNS servers, the banks, government buildings, airports, military and private facilities and connections.
In the DDoS attacks that hit Turkey's DNS servers last week, the hackers managed to hit five major name servers of Turkey, which eventually gave in to the pressure and went offline on Monday night, taking with them over 400,000 websites that were using .tr domains.
The servers came back online on Monday night, but access to .tr websites was limited to only a few trusted IP ranges, with most Turkish websites being isolated from the Internet.
The attacks continued over the next days, on a smaller scale, with Turkey's DNS service “recovering” and returning to full operational status by the end of the week.
