Hersheypark makerin Pennsylvania, has received a report that its payment processing systems appear to have been compromised. The company has immediately launched an investigation into the matter.
Several financial institutions noticed a series of suspicious transactions executed from the company's customer accounts, as reported in the security blog by Brian Krebs.
Hersheypark was founded in 1906 as a relaxation area for employees of the Hershey Chocolate Company, but has expanded over the years into one of the state's most sought-after attractions, with over 3 million visitors in recent years.
In an effort to protect consumers and their money, banks are monitoring underground forums frequented by cybercriminals who are trying to sell stolen credit card information. When they become aware of a new offer for information, they purchase a small portion of the file to determine its origin.
In fact, the company "Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company" officially announced to Krebs that it received complaints from customers who identified suspicious movements in their accounts after visiting the entertainment venue.
Kathleen McGraw, the company's communications manager, said they take security issues very seriously, especially when it comes to protecting their customers' data. Although the company has its own security systems for network breaches, they immediately began investigating and even hired external partners to identify the problem and secure their systems.
The period in which the violation was observed was defined as from mid-March to the end of May 2015.
