Google Contributor is a Google subscription service that allows you to view specific sites without ads for a fixed monthly cost.
Google Contributor is more of an experiment than a full-fledged service, as it concerns specific sites that cooperate with Google in the first phase. Right now, one can see Mashable, Imgur, Science Daily, The Onion, Urban Dictionary and WikiHow without ads. The monthly cost is 1, 2 and 3 dollars depending on what the user chooses, and then the ads disappear and the places where the banners appeared are left empty.
According to The Verge, this money goes to the sites, but it is not clear whether Google keeps a portion of it. At the same time, there has been no official information on whether the list of websites that are subject to the Google Contributor ad pause will be further expanded.
However, Google, in its announcement, emphasizes the word “experiment” for Google Contributor, so it is not surprising that its scope is limited, nor the fact that one can use this service by invitation. It remains to be seen both what the public acceptance will be and how the service will fare in the financial field.
