NFC as a mobile payment technology has never lived up to its lofty expectations. That's okay, analysts say, because NFC, which stands for near field communications, is a wireless technology that can transfer data over short distances, or it could be a key part of future applications. A new Kickstarter project with NFC technology , the NFC Ring project, is up today.
It will be a regular ring that you wear on your finger. You might be wondering why Kickstarter for a ring?
Well, the promotional video might explain it better. The ring will allow the wearer to unlock a door lock that also has NFC technology, or unlock a smartphone by simply touching it with the ring. The team behind the Android-powered ring says that it doesn't work all that well with all smartphones that have NFC technology, like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Blackberry Z10.
For these devices the team warns that “you will need a large ring size,” which are “really only for very large fingers.”.
The ring will not require a battery and will cost at least 25 pounds. It is made of titanium and has two NFC. One of the transmitters is for public information and a smaller one on the inside is for private information. Its double-mosaic design is not accidental, it was created for the safety of the users. The user will have to use different gestures to share different types of information.

The NFC Ring is designed by British designer John McLear who says: “We have been working on the development of the NFC Ring for over a year, our product was invented by John McLear to automatically unlock his mobile phone with a practical piece of jewellery.”
