The Economic Police and Cybercrime Prosecution Service informs citizens to avoid being defrauded through fraudulent messages sent to mobile phones
The message in question states that the owner of the telephone connection has won a significant amount of money from a competition and is then urged to send their personal information online for the prepayment of taxes on the amount or for its disbursement.
Citizens are asked to be particularly careful and not be convinced by such messages, which in no way correspond to reality.
The Financial Police and Cybercrime Prosecution Service informs citizens, in order to avoid being scammed, that in recent times, short SMS messages have been sent to mobile phone users, supposedly for winnings from a competition.
The message states that the recipient has won a significant amount of money in a competition (lottery) called “The Millions Mobile Award”, while then, in order to collect the amount, they are urged to send an e-mail with their personal information to the email address eurostakes@msn.com .
Specifically, the message is written in English and states:
«Your Mobile Number has Won £1,500,000.00 in the Millions Mobile Award . To claim Funds, Kindly Email us: EML 424756, Your Name &Number to: eurostakes@msn.com»
It is noted that if a user is convinced and contacts the scammers via email, they are asked for money for alleged prepayment of taxes or expenses for disbursing the winnings.
Citizens are asked not to be persuaded by such messages, specifically:
- Do not respond to messages (sms or emails) stating that they have won sums of money in a competition (lottery) in which they never entered.
- Do not send personal or banking information.
- Do not pay any amount of money.
- Report these cases immediately.
