At $329, Apple's iPad mini is the cheapest iPad yet, but compared to the $199 and $249 Android tablets, it's a bit pricey.
But that may be changing. A new rumor has Apple releasing the new iPad mini 2 at the low price of $249.
The report comes from Citi Research, but it doesn't have much evidence.
Quote from CNET:
Citi said in a report that in September, in addition to a cheap iPhone, they expect to see a $250 iPad Mini. The reason they came to this conclusion is a comment by Apple's Chief Operating Officer, Peter Oppenheim, who said that they are interested in long-term profit and if that means losing some of the short-term profits, then they will do it.
We don't think so. The iPad mini, even at $329, is the only iPad with that many sales. Apple expects to make just as much profit from the iPad mini 2, so they're not going to drop its price to $249, plus it'll have a Retina display, which in itself is reason enough to not only keep the price the same, but to increase it.
It's possible, of course, that the price of the first iPad mini will drop to $249 or even $199 after the release of the iPad mini 2, but Apple is not going to drop the price of its new model.
