The next two iPhones were developed by Steve Jobs, says Apple government liaison

As we told you yesterday, iPhone theft has become a serious problem. That's why Attorney General George Gascón has launched a mission to reduce smartphone theft, asking manufacturers to introduce a "kill switch" that you activate when you report the phone as stolen, but it seems that this is very difficult to achieve.

During his search for information, he spoke with an Apple government liaison about whether it was possible to have a “kill switch” on the iPhone, but he was told that it was almost impossible, because the next two iPhones had already been developed by Steve Jobs when he was still CEO at Apple.

The district attorney says he was informed that the next two iPhones "preceded Tim Cook," so it's unlikely that Apple will add the kill switch technology to them. Other than hearing the rumor that Steve Jobs oversaw the development of the next two iPhones, Gascón says that his meeting with Apple was a big let down.

The prosecutor said that until now he thought these were rumors and the confirmation that they were true disappointed him because for at least the next two years the operation will not make its appearance.

And while the technology is available now, Gascón believes that manufacturers don't want to introduce it because they'll lose out on profit. When someone loses a phone and goes and buys a new one, why lose out on those extra sales?
