The HP Officejet Pro X has been named the world's fastest desktop printer by the Guinness Book of World Records. "The HP OfficeJet Pro X is an ideal solution for small and medium-sized businesses as it offers professional printing at a faster speed and lower cost compared to laser printers, while producing significantly less waste," claims the company, which has been manufacturing printers since 1988.
Hewlett Packard says that inkjet use in the workplace will continue to grow, a trend it attributes to “the constant search for ways to increase productivity and reduce operating costs.” Zac Butcher, from research firm InfoTrends (Digital Peripherals Solutions Consulting Service, Europe), estimates that “the inkjet market will capture a larger share of the office printer market, and worldwide inkjet shipments for business use will increase from 14.7 million in 2011 to 18.9 million in 2016, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.2 percent.”.
In February 1988, HP launched the HP Deskjet, the world's first single-page inkjet printer. Starting at $995, the first HP Deskjet had an average print speed of 2 pages per minute.
Hewlett Packard claims that HP Officejet Pro X Series color printers and MFPs deliver up to twice the speed and half the cost of printing compared to laser printers. Comparison based on manufacturers’ specifications for fastest color printing (as of March 2012) including color laser MFPs under $1,000 and color laser printers under $800 by market share as reported by IDC as of the first quarter of 2012 and HP’s internal testing of the fastest available color print speed (four-page sample tested to ISO 24734) after the first ISO test page set.
