Kantar Worldpanel, a market research firm , today released its report on the operating system landscape in the US in the fourth quarter of 2012. As you can see in the table, iOS captured 51.2 percent of the market, regaining the lead from Android, while increasing its share from 44.9 percent in the same period last year. The corresponding percentages for Android are around 44 percent, which means that Android device sales remained at the same levels as last year. This in turn suggests that Apple gained customers mainly at the expense of RIM and other smaller manufacturers. Apple's percentages remain high both with the advent of the iPhone and with the preference that many people seem to show for older devices such as the iPhone 4/4s.
These numbers are particularly important especially in a period when it seems that Apple is behind Android with iOS losing ground and fast. At least in America, the above does not seem to be the case, at least not yet!
