The sophisticated “Faceboourk” scam

Many Facebook users have gained the awareness needed to understand when an email is leading down a dangerous path and know how to handle it. It's generally pretty easy to tell what's spam and what's not. However, a new scam that appeared and was discovered by developer Troy Hunt on his blogis a little more complicated and more camouflaged than our familiar Facebook scams.

To put it better, it's actually quite sneaky. The scam comes with an email containing a link that supposedly takes you to a video of famous faces. Instead, it takes you to a completely normal-looking Facebook page that you're logged in to.

If you log in, it will ask you to update your security settings and credit card information. However, the whole process seems genuine, just like on Facebook.

As Hunt points out in his post, the scam hasn't yet been flagged as spam, as is often the case with other well-known scams due to the sloppiness or poor syntax and spelling used to create the page. The scam in question is very well-crafted, and only one thing gives away its malicious intent: the site's URL is faceboourk.com, facecrooks reports.
It's one of the most insidious scams on Facebook, but it teaches an important lesson: always be cautious when asked for personal information. Take a close look at the website you're on.
