Omegle is one of the most well-known free and anonymous chat rooms out there. This popular service allows you to chat with strangers without having to register, but is it really as anonymous as we think ?
As it turned out, no, as all conversations are recorded, so if someone has shared their personal information in a conversation, they cease to maintain their anonymity, after all, even the website itself describes its service as follows:
"When you use Omegle, we pick someone else at random and let you talk one-on-one. To help you stay safe, chats are anonymous unless you tell someone who you are (not suggested!), and you can stop a chat at any time."
And the worst part is that the information is stored in such a way that even someone with minimal hacking knowledge can access it.
And so it happened!
Indrajeet Bhuyan was able to show how Omegle saves screenshots of all conversations. Bhuyan wrote a simple python script that automatically downloads and saves these screenshots.
As proof, he posted some of these screenshots and demonstrated how easily teenagers share their personal information.

"People on Omegle often think their chats are private and automatically get deleted once they disconnect from the conversation. Due to this false sense of security, people often share their sensitive information on the service. Omegle-Chat-Hack is a tool that demonstrates how insecure these online chat services are and how one can read your private messages sent over the service."
