Sony Pictures ' internal information system was paralyzed on Monday after employees of the American film production and distribution company saw on their screens the image of a skeleton and a message from the "Peacekeepers" threatening that... The news was confirmed by Sony Pictures to Variety.com online, although it was not identified as “unauthorized access” but as “an IT support issue.” Other sources (Hollywood Reporter, Deadline.com) reported that there was a commotion at the studio in Culver City, California. Employees were asked to turn off computers , not access their email accounts, and disconnect their mobile devices from the internal wireless network.
The message is signed by the “GOP” (Guardians of Peace), who did not express their demands from the company, but demanded “submission”, under the threat of making the company's best-kept secrets public.
In 2011, Sony, and specifically the division that manufactures everything related to the Playstation, suffered the biggest cyberattack in its history, exposing the data of millions of PSN users worldwide. This time, the attack concerns the film production division.
