The Russian government will replace Intel and AMD with its own processors

Russian-Government-to-Ditch-Intel-and-ADM-for-its-Own-Baikal-Processors

The Russian government appears to be trying to get rid of all computers with Intel or AMD processors, instead creating its own platform, which will be based on ARM-based architecture.

As local media reports, three state-owned Russian companies will collaborate to create the processors, which will be designed based on ARM's 64-bit Cortex-A57 architecture.

The processors will be equipped with at least eight cores, will be built on 28nm and will offer speeds of up to 2GHz or even higher.

The processors will be named after Baikal, which is the deepest lake in the world and is located in Russia. According to reports, two types of processors will be manufactured, the Baikal M and M/S.

The Baikal processors, which are expected to be released in 2015, are set to be installed in computers used by government agencies and businesses. According to data, these organizations spend $1.3 billion on the purchase of 700,000 personal computers and 300,000 servers on an annual basis.
