Facebook and Netgear partner to provide WiFi access via check-in

Do you remember the Facebook and Cisco collaboration regarding users' access to WiFiby checking in to a business's location through the most popular Social Network? This time at CES 2014, a collaboration between Facebook and Netgear, with the same goal: Access to WiFi in exchange for a check-in on Facebook.

Netgear announced that WiFi access via FB check-in will be available on the Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi Router, R6300 Smart WiFi Router, R6250 Smart WiFi Router and R6200 WiFi Router. With the exception of the R6300, which already has the necessary firmware version, the remaining routers will receive a new firmware version in the first quarter of 2014.

Businesses will be able to configure their devices so that users who do not wish to use the Facebook method to access WiFi can enter the password normally.

Something similar, using more Social Networks, is being done by the Greek startup Zoottle, which we have previously mentioned in Social Media Life.
