Samsung fined $340,000 for defamation campaign against HTC

Taiwan's competition commission has fined Samsung Electronics' domestic unit in South Korea $340,000, accusing it of damaging the reputation of mobile phone maker HTC.

According to a statement issued by the competition commission, Samsung had organized an online campaign that violated fair trade rules, tarnishing the reputation of HTC phones and praising its own devices.

Two cooperating companies were also punished for the violation, and smaller fines were imposed on them.

Earlier that year, the FTC fined Samsung $300,000 for misleading consumers about the camera features of its Galaxy Y Duos GT-S6102 mobile phone.
