Statistics show that there is an improvement in Windows Phone's market share in the US market.
Microsoft will soon release Windows 10 Mobile, which is pretty much the biggest Windows Phone update ever, so it's no surprise that Redmond has high hopes for the mobile business.
But in the meantime, Windows Phone, which barely gets any attention from its parent company these days, continues to improve in most major markets around the world, although its overall market share remains relatively low. The good news is that Windows Phone continues to grow despite its small market share, but on the other hand, it still has a very tough task: competing with Android and iOS.
As for the United States, the data shows that it is not exactly the friendliest market for Windows Phone and Microsoft has a really tough job of stealing users from its rivals. But, just like in other countries, Windows Phone's performance is solid.
Data provided by comScore for the three-month period ending July 2015 shows that Windows Phone has a 2.9% share in the United States, which is only 0.1% down from April 2015. This means that Windows Phone is maintaining its dominance in Microsoft's home market, despite the fact that there have been no major OS updates or flagships released during this period.

A different set of data from the one published a few days ago, provided by Kantar, shows that Windows Phone has a 3.8% share in the United States, an increase of 1.3 points from the previous year. Android is in first place with 65.6%, according to Kantar, while iOS follows in second place with 30.1%.
According to data from comScore, Android dominates the market with 51.4% of smartphones in the country, while iOS runs on 44.2% of devices.
Although the figures are slightly different, it's pretty clear that Windows Phone still has a long way to go to become a strong rival to Android and iOS, and everyone hopes to see that change when Windows 10 Mobile sees the light of day next month.
