Zano drone makers apologize

The company behind the failed Zano mini-drones has given some details about how the over £2.3m in funding was allocated.

Torquing Group was criticized for a lack of communication with Zano after the plan last week.

An apology has been issued along with the new information.

Zano's collapse caused embarrassment on Kickstarter when many disappointed backers questioned whether they would get their money back.

In the new updated schedule, which was posted on the Kickstarter page, the company provided details on how the funding had been distributed across its entire project.

"Significant economic impact"

The four largest areas to which over £2.3 million in donations have been distributed are:

46% – Stock market and construction

14% – Salaries

9% – Purchase Taxes

5% – Kickstarter and payment fees

Developing improvements to the Zano prototype was a significant example of the spending, according to the company.

“Ultimately these upgrades combined with the delays caused by the creation of custom and automated testing equipment had significant financial and time implications on the project,” the statement added.

The company also reiterated its intention to “cooperate fully” with trading standards at Pembrokeshire County Council.

In a comment at the end, Torquing adds an additional apology: “I would like to express my sincere apologies for the understandable disappointment to all those who have supported the project.”

"Extremely disappointed"

The BBC has also learned that Kickstarter has contacted backers after the project's collapse was announced last week.

“Like you, we are extremely disappointed with what happened with this project,” he said in a message.

He added that Kickstarter had asked Torquing to provide a more detailed update to backers by November 30th – or Kickstarter would continue investigating the project.
