Imgur Vulnerability Found – Someone Exploited This Vulnerability Targeting 4chan and 8chan
Imgur, a web portal well known for its ironic cat GIFs and memes, was recently found to have a vulnerability that led to massive trafficking on the 4chan & 8chan imageboards, using distributed denial of service (DDoS).
An Imgur employee first reported on Reddit that every time a user subreddit a 4chan or 8chan image, a DDoS code is activated and loads hundreds of new windows with several images in each, causing massive traffic and server.
Many Reddit users initially received notifications to report the incidents and have already posted remarks about Imgur employees, claiming that the employees intentionally added these malicious codes – thus blaming them. The truth is that since then, the rumors circulating have not yet been proven true.
At present, the website's administrators have fixed this vulnerability, and a notice published by the company itself states that all errors and all infected codes have been fixed while the team is now trying to check the security of the 4chan and 8chan imageboards.
“Someone managed to upload an HTML file with malicious JavaScript attached, which targeted 8chan,” the company employee said. “We have fixed this bug and it is no longer possible for someone to upload such files. We are also no longer sending such files ourselves.”
However, concern among users remains about whether 4chan and 8chan reddit are safe from malicious subreddits.
